Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) legislator Ramesh Wanjale, who represented Khadakvasla, died here following a massive heart attack on Friday, a party spokesman said. He was 45. Ramesh Wanjale, the man famously known as the 'gold man', and the only Pune MLA elected from Khadakwasala constituency in
2009, passed away in Jahangir Hospital last night following a cardiac arrest.

He has decided to shed the gold ornaments but above that he will also start his education again. I want to do get a Phd. Degree and my thesis would be on Sant Tukaram, as I consider him as my guru, he said.
However, Wanjale is only a 10th class pass.
Wanjale had an appointment for an MRI scan at Joshi Hospital on Friday after he complained of shoulder and spinal pain. “He was advised to undergo shoulder, cervical spine and whole spine screening. He arrived at around 7 pm at the MRI section. He collapsed soon after he was taken for screening. Our doctors revived his heart beat with the help of a cardiac massage and a cardiac defibrillator. But his relatives insisted on taking him to Jehangir Hospital. An ambulance with doctors accompanied him. His son-in-law was with him along with some party workers,” Ashish Atre, radiologist at Joshi Hospital, said.

Ramesh Wanjale is known as the MNS’s golden boy because of the two kg gold he wears.
He wears three gold chains with huge pendants, bracelets, gold watch and rings in eight fingers, including one with the party symbol.

As news about Wanjale’s condition spread, party workers gathered at Jehangir Hospital where there was heavy police bandobast. Deputy commissioner of police zone I Dnyaneshwar Phadtare said, “As a precautionary measure, we have stepped up police security in the city.”

General secretary, MNS, Pune Anil Shidore confirmed the news of Wanjale's death. Shidore said, "Doctors at Jahangir Hospital tried everything possible to save Wanjale and it was decided to conduct an Angioplasty. Wanjale's condition worsened and he died during treatment at about 10.05 pm."
Meanwhile Raj Thackeray along with other senior MNS officials left for Pune to attend the funeral.
