I can see it already, this post will suck! Ha-ha. I just wanted to get some more August posts in so...yeah. I'm probably going to end this post on a complete different topic! Ha-ha. (again)

SuperLuckyCat - A Recycled One-of-a-Kind Clothing Label

Ecological style, better known as eco-chic, has been fast and furiously hitting the pavement this season. From the spring 2009 Heatherette line to retail store Anthropologie, eco-fashion can be found in every nook and cranny across coasts. If you think back, let's say, 10 years ago, no tarot card, crystal ball, or star positioning could have predicted the eco fashion craze we see today. Unless that is, you're L.A. based SuperLuckyCat Designer and Co-Founder, Crystal Butler.

In 2000, Butler decided to turn a hobby into a full-fledged business. Butler, a thrift store fanatic, spent her college years at the Fashion Institute of Technology turning thrift store finds into fine threads. After years of working within the many facets of the retail world, Butler decided to return to her roots by exclusively devoting her energy towards transforming the past into the future. She is turning vintage clothing into new-fangled, contemporary, one-of-a-kind designs. That's right, one-of-a-kind! You will never find two SuperLuckyCat pieces alike. Butler, and co-founder Michael Baffico, are dancing at the cusp of innovation and doing well at it.

Grooveeffect recently caught up with SuperLuckyCat designer Crystal Butler to get inside the head of an eco-chic mastermind:

First off, how did you come up with the name "SuperLuckyCat" and what does it mean to you?

Our company is in a live-work artist's space near Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. When we first started talking about getting our business going, we spent a lot of time eating out in the area. There are lucky cats all over Little Tokyo, and one night when we were trying to come up with a name my partner looked over at one and said "SuperLuckyCat". So that was that!

The cat beckons customers to come into shops, which can't hurt for a fledgling clothing company.

You worked in retail as a buyer before creating SuperLuckyCat. How has your experience in the retail industry helped you as a designer?

Working in the retail end of the industry is an invaluable reality check. I learned how to weigh customer needs against what I want to design.

What made you decide to leave the administrative side of retail for the creative/design side?

Design has always been my first love. I went back to it once I had enough experience in other aspects of the industry to feel confident starting my own business.

Why recycled material as opposed to new?

At heart I'm a hoarder who just can't bear to see anything with a useful life left in it go into the garbage! I also enjoy the challenge of engineering ways to work with the materials.

What is your design philosophy?

From a design perspective, I like the idea of individualism. People all have their own quirks; so do our clothes. Design differs from art in that the end product has to be functional as well as (if it's done right) aesthetically pleasing. Good design can bring pleasure by enhancing the everyday objects we have to interact with. Clothing is something we use more or less all day, so making a garment that can bring a little joy to put on is one way to make the world a little bit nicer place.

Where do you find your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from past and current fashion, as well as the recycled materials themselves.

Are you trying to be completely innovative with every piece? Or do you play off of current trends and fashions?

Since our clothes are a little unusual to begin with due to their components, we try to come up with designs reflect current fashion to some degree. The recycled materials always give them their own look.

Who is your favorite designer?

That's a tough question! As a designer and business owner, I'd have to pick Betsy Johnson. She's remained true to herself, been commercially successful, and looks like she's always having a good time doing it.

Where do you see SuperLuckyCat in the future?

We're hoping to expand the materials we recycle by possibly going into categories besides clothing or working in new fabric made from recycled fibers.

What are you obsessed with right now?

Finding the perfect pair of brightly colored jeans.

Conceptual Oldschool Video Game Shirts

Italy Ugly Fashion Week

I was just browsing on some fashion in Italy for their fashion week, and I thought most of the designers dress are just not something I’d buy. I mean, its over priced, doesn’t look comfortable, and bizarre looking! Maybe I will consider it for Halloween or a special dress up party, but definitely won’t wear in on a normal day. I don’t understand why all fashion shows has to be so complicated, and crazy looking clothing that most people wouldn’t wear in public. I guess fashion shows are competition to see who can make the most bizarre looking clothes. Whats your opinion on the run way designers? Do you think they’re wasting too much time and effort in designing fashion clothing that most people will not purchase? and most of us will not wear?

Two Stylish Asian Girls- Fall Fashion in Taiwan,Taichung JingMing 1st Street

Two nights ago, after work Jenny and I decided to take a trip to JingMing 1′st street in Taichung to do some Christmas shopping. JingMing 1st Street is Taichung’s best known attractions with my visitors from all over the world. It’s decorated and designed with its unique European-style cafe street-like ambiance. There are a lot of boutiques and shops selling lots of clothing, jewelry, beauty/health products, fashion accessories, handicrafts and art. When we were there, it was beautifully embellish with Christmas decorations that made it so romantic! We saw many couple on dates, enjoying their night listening to the live bands and chatting their night away~ There were too many things I wanted to get, but I could spend so little because I am saving for a trip I am going to this coming holiday. So, I got myself a “Southern breeze” Freshener (yes, i know it sounds boring, but its worth it). It smells like mix fruit, and my room is smelling real nice! If you guys ever get a chance to visit Taiwan, should check out JingMing 1′st street. JingMing 1st Street is conveniently located in the heart of Taichung’s “Little Europe” neighborhood, not far from JingCheng Road and TaiZhongGang Road, section 2.

While shopping I had to stop a couple of girls for my camera. So, the above picture is Shannon who is only 14 years old wearing hat from Gucci, Christmas top from Abercrombie& Fitch, Sweater from Cantwo, short white mini skirt from the market, shoe from T-3, and her luxury Gucci bag she got as a gift from Dad. I’m a little jealous here, she’s only 14 and already has a Gucci bag. Actually she told me she has at least another 6 different style of Gucci purses hid inside her closet!

Here, this is Jeon 22 year-old tourist who comes from Korea shopping at JingMing 1st street. At first she wouldn’t let me take her photo because she was so shy. (and also because she didn’t understand what I was saying. I need to learn some Korean now!) Since it was so hard to communicate with her, my International sign language came in handy. So this is what I got from her: Her top and scarf is from a Korean Store. Purple leggings from Zara. And her shoe from All Star Converse.

What Are These Celebs Wearing?

Nope, not my style at all. Lily Allen the British singer and Cameron Diaz the actress both wearing the same gray dress. Lily wears her dress over her jeans while Cameron simply wears it without anything. Personally, I would not pick this dress, its just not my style. But if i were to wear this, I would not wear it with jeans underneath. I prefer Cameron’s confident style! What are your opinions?

Karl Lagerfeld`s trenches for the warm season New Era

Searching for this year`s trends, we`ve “runned into” Karl Lagerfeld`s spring-summer collection of this year and it looks simply exquisite. Let`s take a look and see some fine models and what`s so in trend in this warm season!

Trenches are really in. as mentioned in some articles before, if you don`t have such a piece of clothing, go immediately and buy one! The most encountered nuance is black with different variations! The trucks must be long, over the knees and very tight in the waist are to highlight your feminine beauty! The cuts are really nice and underline the line of the neck, also let`s mentioned that only button is enough for such a trench coat! Another thing that should be said is that these pieces of clothing come this year to highlight the beauty of your legs and it`s important what you wear or not underneath it!

Besides the upper knee model, the really short one until the waist line is also great to wear! There is also that vest, made of material similar to that of the trench, but it doesn`t have any sleeves and looks like flowing on your body!

The masculine jacket worn with a belt and a tie will simply look great on a sexy woman! In fact try to play with your boyfriend or husband`s ties and see what model suits you better, but Lagerfeld recommends black matt!

As prevalent colors, although mentioned above are the noncolors white and black, which combine really fine with each other! You can have a black trench with a leather belt with white applications or a white trench, with long sleeves and a nice and glossy black belt around your waist!

Lagerfeld`s collection highlights itsdelf not only by the sexiness, but also with the cuts! Deep cleavages for the trenches underline a beautiful dress with a long collar, or a sexy chest that wears a nice piece of jewelry!

Let`s mention also about the plumpy areas of this piece of clothing, around the choulders and the hips, realized to concentrate all the attention on the waist and on the chest area! So much simplicity but so much sexiness revealed only by wearing a trench! It is very important how the trench is worn, for instance, the designer revealed women`s beautiful legs and with all these nice trenches, it is recommended to wear short pants with margins or nice short dresses that don`t inspire vulgarity!

Lagerfeld`s trenches have tall collars and these are designed for women that have long necks, avoid wearing them if you don`t have a zebra neck! For you the deep cleavage cut of the trench seems to fit like a glove! Remember: black and white can look so sexy and fresh if you know how to wear them! it`s a matter of attitude and tastes…. If you pay attention, you`ll clearly go on the right track.

White outfits

As mentioned before, black seems to be an inspiring noncolour when it comes to fashion this warm season. The combination black and white still remains in top, but what about only white with different gray variations and metallic influences? Well, it`s so in trend too! It is applied, most of all, to dresses that take nice and playful cuts that denote youth and power! Let`s see some models of dresses and outfits you may want to hear about, together with colors and accessorizing them!

The first model is a white dress very tight on the body with short sleeves. In the bust area it has some nice cuts, which reveal a little bit of the skin, but not too much! The dress is accessorized with a pair of high heeled sandals that has similar models with those encountered on the dress!

Extremely tight pants are in! The cigarette model remains trendy, but in white color and combined with similar sandals like those mentioned before! The top worn in the upper side has interesting cuts on the chest area, which brings us with the idea of science fiction costumes! The jacket worn on the outside is also white, like the rest of the outfit, it is designed a little bit larger than the other pieces of clothing and has big pockets and medium size sleeves!

A more elegant outfit is one composed of a not too short skirt (immediately over the knees) and a nice jacket made in the same model with the skirt! The color is definetly white and it is combined with the same pair of sandals, which seem to be very elegant and a must have in your shoe closet! The entire image offered by this outfit is similar to those costumes made in the science movies, like Star Trek.

Another thing that should be in your closet is a white dress, really tight on the body, made of stretch material and without sleeves! You can have some applications on the chest and some nice couppes under the breast areas! Don`t forget about the high heeled sandals!

A nice pair of cigarette pants, made of stretch material with a jacket that adopts the same style can be very well accessorized with a large purse, which adopts some models of the outfit and high heeled sandals, all in white nuance! A white outfit from head to toes and it simply looks great!

A similar model with that dress mentioned some lines before is recommended: only it has a different cut and it`s at the base of the neck with an angle towards the face, the color remains still white and it has two ultra dimenstional pockets!

The dress is above the knees and it is worn with high heeled sandals, and it`s white like all the their outfits! Similar to this dress is another one, it`s different by the manner it is accessorized with zippers and metallic elements, the jacket worn is also really cool, with a lot of zippers applied, with rock motifs on it! the purse is also great it`s large and has also metallic applications on it! Don`t forget about the sandals….

White and gray outfits

In order to give a metallic touch to the white outfit, you can always apply for some fade gray stripes here and there. For instance, in this outfit, the impression of metallic and spatial is given both by the gray stripes and the metallic applications! In what does this outfit consist of?

Well a pair of long pants, tight on the body, made of stretch material and on the margin these have some metallic applications. Instead of the belt, two lines with metallic applications and a shirt with the same effect! On the exterior, a nice jacket with puffes sleeves in medium size! The jacket is long and covers the posterior and it is worn without being “closed”! Don`t forget about the high heeled pair of sandals also in white nuance!

A long pair of pants, cigarette type, made of stretch and  under the waists with a nice metallic accessory! The jacket is also tight on the body and it has metallic buttons! The shirt you wear is also tight on the body; the envelope purse goes perfectly with this outfit, only this time, make it in a gray nuance! The high heeled sandals remain in a white and siny nuance! The entire outfit plays with white and gray and looks great on a thin body with attitude!

A short skirt, not too short with a nice jacket and a metallic belt around the waist area! The jacket has medium sleeves and a nice and fine cut on the chest area, not such a deep cleavage! The purse is medium size and it`s in a metallic gray nuance, accessorized with a pair of high heeled sandals in the same nuance of it! This outfit is rather elegant, but not too much! It is inspired by the powerful woman, who denotes freshness and youth!

This outfit is casual! From out point of view seems to be the one that highlights the sexy and young woman of our days! It can be perfectly described in this way: stretch pants, very tight on her body, in white and gray nuance, a white belt with gray lines on it, triangular pockets, a tight and sexy shirt in dark gray nuance with metallic reflections!

The outside jacket has medium sleeves and it is tight on the body with a big collar, also triangular! The purse has a long lace, which permits the purse to be worn on one shoulder! This outfit is entirely in a gray nuance with white reflections! Even the high heeled sandals are in a gray nuance! In all it`s essence, this outfit looks great on every body if you know how to adapt it!

Our modern woman knows what she wants! And these clothes come to highlight this idea! A woman can be sexy and smart in the same time, that`s what these clothes suggest!

Karl Lagerfeld`s trenches for the warm season

In the previous article we speak about Karl Lagerfeld`s trenches designed for the warm season. Now let`s see with what can be these worn or accessorized maybe you`ll get some ideas regarding your day by day outfits!

The most important thing for the designer is to highlight the women`s beautiful legs, so he recommends wearing those trench coats with some really short pants with a nice margin and a little bit large, not to fixed on the body! You can apply also for short overalls with big square pockets and long cleavage! Really short skirts are also an option! The basic idea is that these should have really elegant cuts and those margins are obligatory!

A combination of short skirt with margin and a really elegant shirt with a high collar can be a perfect description of Lagerfeld`s collection! Make sure that the trench is short and shows your skirt and the models encountered on the chest!

The dandy image of a woman can be created really simple! With the help of a black trench, a nice elegant shirt that permits wearing a tie and a pair of white short pants with that obsessive margin! Use some attitude and you`ll take everybody`s eyes! Just don`t forget to place a belt around your waist!

A white trench can be perfectly worn with a fine skirt, very simple in a black nuance and also with a black belt around the waist on the exterior side of the trench!

Generally speaking, the most important pieces of clothing are the short pants with margins, short skirts also with margins, overalls, elegant shirts with interesting models of collars! These shouldn`t be absent from your closet if you`re really proud of your legs and want to show them all the time! Short skirts with nice lines and with interesting sleeves should be present, and in fact you should wear such a model right now! Kidding!

The basic shoes are high heeled sandals or Greek style ones, really shiny in black, white or metallic nuances! The trench coat – always fashionable

Trench coats seem to be a key word for the cold season! This classical piece of clothing seems to be fashionable every time, as long as it’s stylized with modern motifs and with new lines and cuts! Let’s see some trendy trench coats and with what you can accessorize them!

The first trench coat seems to take the classical lines, it’s elegant and made of cotton fabric! The lines are as you know them, a collar turned around with a nice cleavage, a cord around the waist to underline your beautiful body. The strap placed around the waist can be made from the same material and nuance of the trench, or you can simply place a black leather belt or in any color you like more! You can adopt such a piece of clothing in a beige nuance, kaki, brown, black or even white! If you go out of this patterns it’s good, because it means you stylize it you prefer! Another notable thing about this trench coat is that it has big buttons in different shapes and colors and that’s what give the great aspect of the entire outfit! The classical trench suit is certainly long, maybe until the knee area and can have long or short sleeves, depending on how chilly is that particular day!

You can adopt a trench that isn’t that classical, meaning that the colors that are applied on it are strong and have great contrasting combinations! These types of cloths can be worn the most in the spring or autumn period! The cuts are similar with that of the classical trench, similar applications with two rows of buttons or maybe one, depending on the model you choose!

Let’s mention also the cropped model! It’s fine, so feminine and it suits every type of body shape! It permits you to share to the world your beautiful posterior or even highlight the beautiful bust area!

Drawing an early conclusion, how do these trench coats differ one from another?
